Alishba was born and schooled in a land far away. A land of antelopes, elephants and passionfruit vines. Alishba’s parents and brothers bestow on her the gifts of Courage, Care, Determination and Dare, which she passes on to her baby sister. Together they become kind, brave, bold and rare, just like the splendid capes they wear. Written in the form of a traditional folktale, the story portrays the author’s Pakistani/Indian heritage and her early life growing up in Uganda.

Author:
Faeza Samnakay is an Inclusive Educator with 20 years of experience working in schools, coordination services, and consultancy in the therapy space. She is a passionate advocate for disability inclusion as well as linguistically diverse organisations that support the empowerment of marginalised women and children. She has written this book to honour the influences that shaped her early childhood and hopes it inspires deeper family bonds.
Illustrator:
Sam B is an Australian digital artist from Canberra. His boldly lined, saturated art style seeks to invoke nostalgia for various traditional printmaking techniques of the past while utilising the wider palette of options a contemporary art program can provide. Sam worked closely with Faeza to authentically represent her family’s cultural background. After drawing extensively for online clients, this is his first children’s picture book.
